Respect for the environment: a priority for Kiomda
At Kiomda, we place great importance on the origin of the components used in assembling our people counters. The protective casings for the sensors’ electronics are manufactured in Brittany, as are the electronic boards produced in Saint-Domineuc. Additionally, the stickers applied to these casings are also made in France. By prioritizing local suppliers, we significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our equipment.

Sustainable Materials for Installations
When the installation of people counters requires a post, or when clients opt for an integrated counter within a hollowed-out post—such as the Arche de la Nature in Le Mans—Kiomda uses PEFC-certified wooden posts. This label guarantees sustainable forest management and traceability across the entire forestry and wood-paper supply chain, from landowners and loggers to businesses.
Moreover, our posts can be installed without the use of concrete, preserving the natural integrity of the sites where they are placed.
Repairable People Counters for Long-Term Use
Kiomda’s people counters are proudly manufactured in France, in our workshop located in Lille. Designed to be repairable, our counters minimize the need for part replacements or new manufacturing. For clients requiring long-term monitoring, Kiomda offers an annual return system for preventive maintenance to ensure the equipment’s longevity.
To minimize transportation during the product lifecycle, all preventive and corrective maintenance is performed in our Lille workshop. Additionally, all afternoon deliveries are conducted by bicycle, reducing the carbon footprint even further.
Energy-Efficient People Counters
Our counters are designed for low energy consumption, limiting the need for battery replacements and reducing associated waste from production and recycling.
Since early 2024, all our sensors are equipped with a new electronic board, the result of extensive R&D efforts. This innovation significantly boosts energy autonomy—extending battery life from 24 months to over 5 years when configured to transmit data once a day.
Energy-saving principles also extend to our software design. All sensors can be configured to transmit data only once per day—data transmission being the most energy-intensive operation. This reduces battery usage and limits bandwidth consumption. Of course, for specific needs, data can still be sent more frequently (every 15 minutes or hourly).
During preventive maintenance, any battery incapable of running for at least another 12 months is replaced. Old batteries are then repurposed in Kiomda’s Rental Department. Our event rental service—used for trade shows, sporting events, festivals, and more—extends battery life until they reach the end of their usable capacity, after which they are recycled.
Waste Reduction and Management
All electronic and plastic waste generated during production is sorted and recycled responsibly.
In our shipping process, we have replaced plastic pouches with sleeves made from recycled paper, and bubble wrap has been substituted with recycled cardboard for protective packaging.
Environmental responsibility is a core focus of Kiomda’s R&D efforts, and we are actively developing new innovations to enhance sustainability in the months and years ahead.
