Beaupréau-en-Mauges, located in Maine-et-Loire, is a town that is actively involved in the development of alternative and sustainable mobility. With this in mind, it has created a smooth link parallel to a departmental road in order to offer residents a safe route for cycling and walking. The project received co-financing from the department, subject to being able to provide accurate data on the attendance of this new infrastructure. The municipality therefore sought a reliable, discreet and simple to deploy solution to monitor the use of the soft link and compare its attractiveness with the adjacent departmental road. Why did the municipality choose Kiomda? In order to meet this monitoring requirement, Beaupréau-en-Mauges opted for a Kiomda meter. This choice was based on several criteria: a discreet and aesthetic device, which integrates perfectly into the landscape, a simple and fast installation, without requiring a heavy infrastructure, data that can be used on a daily basis, which can be consulted via the Kiomda application and integrated into reports intended for elected officials and technical teams. Thanks to this solution, the municipality now has reliable indicators on the evolution of pedestrian and cycling flows, allowing it to promote its development to the department and optimize its future decisions in terms of soft mobility.

Essential Data to Justify a Departmental Grant

As part of the development of a soft mobility route parallel to a departmental road, the municipality of Beaupréau-en-Mauges installed a Kiomda counter to measure the usage of this infrastructure.

Since the department co-funded part of the project, it is necessary to provide regular, quantified data on the traffic levels along the new pathway.

The data is compiled into consolidated reports, making it easier to analyze attendance trends and track the evolution of local mobility.

Uncovering Unexpected Usage Patterns

The primary goal of the counter was not to make immediate decisions but rather to assess how the soft mobility route was used compared to the departmental road.

The flow analysis helped better understand local mobility habits and revealed unexpected behaviors. One surprising finding was a spike in usage on Tuesdays after 10:00 PM, which caught the municipal team off guard.

With the counter’s data, they discovered that the local football team players were using the path to return home after their weekly training sessions.
