Valuable Data to Assess Overcrowding and Adapt Mobility Strategies

As part of a study conducted from April 2022 to October 2023, the PETR Pays de Remiremont et ses Vallées used Kiomda counters to analyze visitor flow at several vulnerable natural sites. Some of these areas faced significant overcrowding, posing a threat to their ecological balance.

The collected data helped document the pressure on these spaces and supported decision-making for better protection. This included exploring mobility solutions such as shuttle services to regulate access and reduce environmental impact.

"The counters were an essential tool for the study. The consulting firm was able to cross-reference attendance data with on-site observations, such as tree and soil conditions, to assess the environmental fragility of the sites."

Near Real-Time Monitoring to Inform Officials and Adapt Decisions

One of the major advantages of the Kiomda system was its fast data transmission. Every morning, attendance reports were available, enabling daily and responsive monitoring.

"Having access to the data the next day gives me a clear picture of visitor numbers. These figures, along with generated graphs over defined periods, provide concrete insights I can present in meetings with elected officials."

The counters proved to be a crucial resource for documenting the study, contributing to reports and supporting discussions with decision-makers.

Data Utilized by Multiple Stakeholders

The collected figures were shared with several key players to inform strategic planning and action plans:

Local officials and site managers, to identify the necessary actions.
Consulting firms, to refine their analysis and propose tailored solutions.
The Vosges Massif Development Commission, to track attendance trends and support funding requests.

"The counters will continue to be used on sites where actions are being implemented and will also be deployed on new sites to monitor their evolution."

Concrete Actions Implemented Thanks to the Data

Based on Kiomda counter analyses, several key decisions were made:

Development of an action plan, in collaboration with the consulting firm, later proposed to municipalities and site managers.
Funding applications and approvals for solutions such as shuttle services and specific infrastructure improvements.
Ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of implemented measures, with continued tracking on select sites.

The data not only helps guide infrastructure planning, but also tracks the long-term impact of decisions.

Reliability and Feedback on Installation

The installation of the counters yielded very positive results, demonstrating strong durability and reliable accuracy. However, experience showed that unprotected devices were more susceptible to damage, unlike those housed in wooden enclosures.

"The counters protected by a wooden casing had no issues. Those left visible were more exposed to damage."

A Proven Decision-Support Tool

With fast data transmission, high accuracy, and an intuitive monitoring interface, Kiomda counters met the expectations of the PETR Pays de Remiremont et ses Vallées.

They provided precise attendance measurements, guided mobility and infrastructure decisions, and justified concrete actions for the preservation of natural sites.
